Burnout.

At some point in our lives, we have all been there. We grow impatient with our lack of progress and start losing interest in what we are studying. We start putting off studying and we no longer make it a priority.

We all enjoy doing
something — whether it be watching TV, gardening, hiking, golfing, or reading books … the list goes on. If we could combine our English study with something we enjoy, it would make studying fun again.

There are many ways to go about bringing our interests into our English studies. Joining social media groups is one way to connect with a like minded communities and discuss in English things that are important to us.

If you’d rather not talk with strangers online, try reading books on topics you’re interested in in English. And you don’t have to stick to silently reading. Read the books out loud with a clear voice. If you are not confident in your pronunciation, get the audiobook and read it out loud, together with the narrator.

Likewise, when watching a TV show or movie in English, repeat the words or phrases that you hear. This may seem a bit embarrassing to do at first, but getting out of your comfort zone can really push yourself forward.

Most important, though, is to have fun.

If studying English becomes monotonous and a chore, you lose your motivation to continue. Learning a new language can be hard, but it does not have to be boring. Bring life back into your study by combining it with your interests, whatever they may be. Involving your interests in your study, will make you more likely to use English everyday. And to reach fluency, using English must become part of your daily life.

So get out there and find a way to bring together your English studies and your interests. It is sure to make your journey to English fluency more fun and, eventually, successful.
