The Holiday Season Begins

In contrast to Japan, the school year in most Western countries begins in September. Consequently, come autumn, the mood in America can be completely different from that in Japan. While Japanese kids are simply returning to the same classes after a brief vacation with lots of homework, everything is fresh and new for American kids. Their classes, teachers, classmates, clothes, school supplies and bags––and maybe even their schools––are different from when the school year ended last June.
And on top of that, the holiday season is beginning. In September, stores already have their Halloween displays up, and home decorations and costume- and party-planning are soon to follow. Thanksgiving quickly follows Halloween and, before you know it, Christmas is happening, to be capped off finally with exuberant New Year’s parties.
It’s a very exciting time of year with high hopes and expectations. These emotions are so intense for us as children that, even after we have grown up, the same mood still captures us every autumn and escalates until the end of the year.
At English Now! we’ll be trying to capture the spirit of the American holiday season. Of course, we’ll be decorating. We’ll also be introducing holiday-themed reading, activities and songs for all of our kids’ classes from now till the end of the year.
So come to our Halloween Party November 1st and join us in enjoying the season’s celebrations!
日本とは反対に、西洋の国々のほとんどが9月に新しい学年が始まります。従って、秋のアメリカのムードは日本と全くと言っていいほど違います。日本の子ども達は単純に同じクラスに戻るだけですが、アメリカの子ども達にとっては全てのものが新鮮で新しい物になります。学年、先生、クラスメイト、服、文房具や鞄ーーそれにもしかしたら学校もーーこれらが6月に学校を離れたときから変わるのです。
そしてそれに加えて、ホリデイの時期の始まりです。お店は9月には既にハロウィンの飾り付けを始め、家の中も飾り付け、仮装も考えます。パーティーの計画もそれに続きます。感謝祭がハロウィンの後すぐに待ち受けていますし、あっという間にクリスマスになって、溢れんばかりの活気があるニューイヤーのパーティーで締めくくりとなります。
期待や希望に溢れる、1年の中でもとてもワクワクする時期ですね。これらの感情は、いくら大人になっても私たちを子どものように熱狂させます。このムードが私たちを捕らえて、年末に行くに従って段々エスカレートしていきます。
English Now!でもこのアメリカのホリデイシーズンの気分をお裾分けし、みなさんを魅了しようと思います！校内の飾り付けはもちろんのこと、全てのキッズクラスで、ホリデイシーズンのテーマの本を読み、アクティビティや歌を年末まで取り入れていきます。
