The English Now Cafe is open!

Well, our English Now Cafe has finally opened! It’s been a long road since we first conceived of it last October, but we’re here!
Why is the English Now Cafe more than just a place to drink good cappuccino and eat delicious cake?
The English Now Cafe fits into our overall plan of creating an international, exotic environment in Tsukuba where English is the lingua franca. Many of our students are studying English to use when they travel abroad or to communicate with foreigners in Japan. However, for various reasons they don’t quite get around to taking long trips alone to English-speaking countries––which is what they really need to do to bump their English up to the next level. Additionally, they often have trouble creating opportunities to speak English with foreigners in Japan.
This is where our Cafe comes in: we intend for it to be the missing link.
Let’s bring the mountain to Mohammed. If our students are having trouble getting to the mountain, let’s bring the mountain to them. Let’s create a comfortable environment in Tsukuba to which the foreign community can gravitate to share information and network––and where our students can actually use their English naturally and meaningfully.
Use the English Now Cafe as an extension of your English study. Don’t let your learning stop at the classroom: carry it over into the Cafe. The Cafe is the place to put your English into practice in an unstructured, sociable environment. Speak to the staff in English. Order in English. Speak to your friends in English. Start conversations with other customers in English. Read magazines and newspapers in English.

English Now Cafeは、つくばに国際的かつ異国的な雰囲気の中、英語が共通語として使われる環境を作りたいと以来より願っていた私達の希望を叶えるもです。生徒のみなさんの中には、旅行した時や日本で外国人にあった時に英語を話せるようにと勉強されている方も多いことと思います。しかし様々な理由から、一人で英語圏の国に行って英語をずっと話すような旅をすることは難しく、そう言った英語力を伸ばす良いきっかけを作れることはなかなかありません。また、日本に住む外国人との会話の場を作るのも、容易ではないでしょう。
ここでEnglish Now Cafeが意味を成すのです。今まで存在しなかった「架け橋」となるべく...。
"モハメッドの方に山を。"山登りをするのに、山に行くまでが難しいのなら、私達が山を皆さんのところまで持ってきましょう。つくばに居心地の良い環境を作り、外国人が集まって情報やネットワークを発信する場をつくる、そして生徒の皆さんには自然に、かつ目的を持って英語を使って頂ける場を提供する。
English Now Cafeを、勉強の延長として使って下さい。クラスだけで終わりにせず、カフェまであなたの英語学習を引っ張ってきて下さい。そこはあなたの英語を、制限なく、しかも社交的な環境で使う場です。英語でスタッフに話しかけて下さい。英語で注文して下さい。英語で友達と話して下さい。英語で他のお客さんに話しかけて下さい。英語で雑誌や新聞を読んで下さい。
