Autumn Learning & Halloween Fun at English Now!
I’d like to emphasize the importance of a few of these suggestions.
First, please see that your child gets to class on time. In fact, arriving a bit early is even better. This gives us a chance to check their homework more carefully and offer a little one-on-one coaching with their English.
Next, please make sure your child completes their homework. This may seem obvious, but we often see children repeatedly failing to do so—and it has a big effect on their progress. Please check the email report we send after each class to confirm the homework assignment. Typically, it includes pages from the Let’s Begin or Let’s Go Workbook, plus a printout reviewing that day’s material. Help them with their handwriting, and try to see that they don’t rush through it. If it’s too much to finish in one sitting, spread it out over a couple of days. Encourage them to sound out the words as they write them.
If you find that your child hasn’t understood something in the homework, feel free to write a comment on the page (in Japanese or English—red pen is best!). Their teacher will see your note and make sure to review the point in class.
Next, the Let’s Begin / Let’s Go textbooks and workbooks both include online resources, which we strongly encourage you to take advantage of.
The textbook resources can be accessed by computer, smartphone, or tablet through the URL on the inside of the front cover (www.oup/elt/letsgo). No registration is required. You’ll probably need to help your child navigate the site the first time, but after that—depending on age—they may manage on their own. The online textbook resources include videos, an online dictionary, games, and a download page for all the video and audio materials, plus some extras like wallpaper, cards, and coloring pages. Many of our students really enjoy these—they’re simple, fun, and very effective for review.
The Let’s Begin / Let’s Go Workbook online resources provide lots of interactive practice for reviewing what’s been covered in class. To access these, please go to https://letsgo5e.oxfordonlinepractice.com and register using the access code under the black tape inside the front cover of the Workbook. Younger children will likely need your help, and since a keyboard is necessary for the exercises, it’s easiest to use a computer. Take advantage of this as an opportunity to enjoy time together—your own engagement motivates your child’s engagement.
Finally, in our report cards we always recommend filling your home environment with lots of English. This can include posters, books, music, videos, comics, and games. Internet-based English is of course valuable, but try to include as many “real,” hands-on, “analog” items as possible. The idea is to make English an everyday part of life—natural, meaningful, and real—not just a 習い事, something to study only once a week.

October is Halloween at English Now! and our students will be enjoying special Halloween activities in their last class of the month—including dressing up in costumes, making jack-o’-lanterns, reading Halloween books, singing Halloween songs, and finally… Trick-or-Treat!

今月、English Now!ではお子さまの成績表をお渡ししています。（お子さまから必ず受け取ってくださいね！）この成績表では、お子さまの英語力と進歩状況についての評価、そしてご家庭でのサポート方法に関するアドバイスをお伝えしています。
ここで、特にもう一度お伝えしたい、いくつかの重要なポイントを紹介します。
まず、授業に時間通りに来ることがとても大切です。実際には、少し早めに来ていただけるとさらに良いです。宿題を丁寧に確認したり、英語学習の個別サポートも行うことができます。
次に、宿題をきちんとやることです。お子さまが宿題をしっかり仕上げているかどうかご確認をお願いします。当たり前のように思われるかもしれませんが、実際には宿題をやってこないお子さんも見られます。これは学習の進み具合に大きく影響します。授業後にお送りしているキッズメールを必ず確認して、どんな宿題が出ているかチェックしてください。宿題の内容は、たいてい「Let’s Begin」「Let’s Go」のワークブックのページと、その日学習した内容の復習用プリントです。急いで終わらせずに、丁寧に字を書くようサポートしてあげてください。一気にやるのが難しい場合は、何日かに分けて取り組んでみましょう。単語を書くときは、声に出しながら書くのも効果的です。
もしお子様が、宿題の内容で分からない点があるようでしたら、そのページに気軽にコメントを書いてください。（日本語でも英語でもOK・赤ペンがベストです！）先生が確認して、授業でフォローします。
また、オンライン教材もぜひ活用してください。「Let’s Begin」「Let's Go」のテキストとワークブックには、オンラインで利用できる教材がたくさんあります。
パソコン・スマートフォン・タブレットで、テキストの表紙内側にあるURL（www.oup/elt/letsgo）からアクセスできます。登録は不要です。最初は保護者の方のサポートが必要かもしれませんが、年齢によっては慣れればお子さまだけでも使えるようになります。内容は、動画、オンライン辞書、ゲーム、全ての動画・音声教材がダウンロードできるページ、さらにおまけとして壁紙、カード、ぬりえなどのコンテンツも用意されています。生徒さんの多くがこれらの教材を楽しんで使っており、わかりやすくて楽しいので復習にぴったりです。
ワークブックのオンライン教材には、授業の復習ができる、見る・聞く・選ぶ・書くといった体験型の練習問題が豊富にあります。https://letsgo5e.oxfordonlinepractice.com にアクセスし、ワークブックの表紙内側にある黒いシールの下の「アクセスコード」で登録してください。キーボード操作が必要なので、パソコンの使用がおすすめです。ぜひ親子で一緒に取り組んでみてください。保護者の方が積極的に関わることで、子どものやる気につながります。
最後に、成績表でも毎回おすすめしていますが、ご家庭の中を英語でいっぱいの環境にすることが、英語力を伸ばすカギです。ポスター・本・音楽・動画・マンガ・ゲームなど、いろいろ取り入れてみてください。インターネット教材も良いですが、なるべく「アナログ」な実物（本やカードなど）も使ってください。週に1回の習い事ではなく、生活の一部という感覚で自然に英語がある環境を目指しましょう。
10月はハロウィンです。10月最後のレッスンでは、特別なハロウィンアクティビティを行います。仮装をしたり、ジャック・オー・ランタンを作ったり、ハロウィンの絵本を読んだり、ハロウィンの歌を歌ったり、そして最後には…Trick-or-Treat！
さて、今年の仮装はどんな感じにしますか？
