Jacques Saffell / Director
アメリカ出身。ENGLISH NOW!学長。名門ジョージタウン大学出身。
文武両道、頭脳明晰。高い指導力といずれの分野にも通じる幅広い知識に多くの方からの支持を得ている。’85年単身来日後、20年以上にも渡り英語指導にあたる。その間に、現在の指導法のベースとなる「英語は耳から!」を確立。当校より多くの「英語のプロ」を輩出!
日本語検定1級保持。

Our Director, Mr. Saffell, is from the U.S.A. and attended the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Washington, DC. Since arriving in Japan in 1985, he has been professionally teaching English for more than 25 years and has developed his own method of teaching “English by ear.” By virtue of his broad and deep academic knowledge in many fields he has succeeded in attracting numerous students who make use of their English in a wide variety of fields. Mr. Saffell also possesses the 1st grade of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
A sampling of his teaching career includes Tokyo University, Waseda University, Nagoya University, Ministry of Agriculture, Air Liquide Laboratories, JAXA, Nikon, Japan Air Gases, Nihon Pall Corporation, NSG Group, NIAIST, Kandatsu Chuo Kindergarten, and A.E.S. Corporation.
Atsuko Saffell / Manager
東京都出身。早稲田大学にて就学中に画家へと転身。フランス各種公募展にて多数の賞を受賞。アメリカ、フランス、カンボジア等に長期滞在後、帰国。現在ENGLISH NOW!にてカウンセラー及び英語指導にあたる。日本人だからこそ分かる「語学学習のツボ」と熱心な指導が評判に!
英語、 クメール語等を巧みに操る。
Born in Tokyo, after attending Waseda University, Atsuko pursued a career as a painter and went on to win several prizes at internationally recognized exhibitions. She has lived abroad in the U.S.A., France and Cambodia––where she learned to speak Khmer. Atsuko both counsels and teaches at English Now! She has earned a reputation for teaching English as a Japanese who truly understands the ins-and-outs of learning a foreign language.
Kimiko Kimura / Assistant Manager
神田外語大学外国語学部卒。学生時代にカナダ、オーストラリアにて語学研修を経験。長期海外滞在はないものの、日本にいながら英語の習得に努める。大学時代は児童英語教育を学び、小学校での教育ボランティア経験あり。徹底した英語使用による国際的な雰囲気に魅力を感じ当校へ。主に日本で英語を勉強してきたことを活かし、「海外経験、英語学習経験が少ない」という生徒様の不安を取り除いていきたい。英語以外にフランス語も学習中。フランス語検定3級所持。
Kimiko graduated from Kanda Foreign Language University. As a student, she attended language training courses in Canada and Australia. In her university, Kimiko took many courses related to English Education for Children and taught elementary school children as a volunteer. Unlike our other staff members who have longer experience learning English abroad, Kimiko has pursued her study of English primarily in Japan. Thanks to this, she deeply understands the situation of Japanese learners who haven't been able to benefit from studying abroad and can advise them positively and effectively. Kimiko also studies French and possesses the 3rd grade French Language Proficiency Certificate.
Daniel Scott / Teacher
アメリカ出身。高校卒業後は海軍に4年間属し、抜群の好成績にて驚異の昇進を収める。その後の3年間を潜水艦乗組員として過ごし、1996年ミネソタ州べミジ大学政治学部を卒業。来日後は大手英会話学校にて11年間トップマネージャーを務める。頭脳明晰、用意周到、そのオープンな気質にて生徒からの信頼も厚い。
野菜作りと料理はプロの腕前。イタリアンとメキシカン料理においてはシェフを務めた経験もある。当校併設カフェの料理監督も務める。
Dan is from south Florida, U.S.A. After graduating from high school, he spent 4 years in the US Navy, 3 of which were spent on a submarine. After serving, Dan graduated from Bemidji University in Minnesota. Soon after arriving in Japan in 1997, he was employed by a well known nationwide English school and over 11 years advanced to become one of their top managers. Dan is known by his students for his energetic, cheerful personality and solidly prepared lessons. He is also a professional chef specializing in Italian and Mexican foods and is currently supervising our food preparation at the English Now Cafe. Dan enjoys growing vegetables on his own small farm.
Douglas Doane / Teacher
アメリカ出身。サウス・フロリダ大学を、化学の学士号にて卒業。無機化学の研究に携わり、メタロ無機物の研究と、結晶体を作って水素貯蔵をする固形合成物の研究に献身していた。研究チームとして、いくつかの新規化合物を発見する結果に至っている。大学にて研究をしていた期間を通して、英語、生物学、化学、物理、数学を多数に教える経験を得る。つくばに移る前には岡山県に在住し、ALTとして小学生、中学生の英語教育に専心した。多岐に渡る趣味を持つ。
Douglas earned his degree in chemistry from the University of South Florida where he researched metallo-inorganics and solid state synthesis. Both fields led to the development of novel compounds. In college, he tutored many peers in English, biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Douglas taught elementary and junior high school in Okayama Prefecture as an ALT before coming to Tsukuba.
Ayako Igawa / Teacher
TOEIC 975点を保持。15歳にして単身でカナダへ語学留学。その後、計4年間を現地の高等、大学にて修学。特に大学時代には社会学や哲学を主に履修し、抜群の成績を修める。単位習得後、大手旅行会社バンクーバー支店で勤務。その間、さらに「ビジネス英語」を習得するべく、英文法の徹底学習を行う。その結果、TOEICにおける高得点を獲得するに至る。「英文法の習得」こそが、ビジネス英語のみならず、日常の基本英語の完成度も高めることができる」という信条のもと、初心者にも分かり易い文法の指導を目指す。
Ayako has achieved a score of 975 on TOEIC. At the age of 15, she moved to Canada to study English where she attended both high school and college. After graduating from college, Ayako was employed at the Vancouver branch of a major travel agency. At the same time, she concentrated on studying both business English and English grammar, which consequently earned her her high TOEIC score. Ayako believes that conquering grammar leads to success not only in business English but also in daily conversation. She specializes in teaching English grammar in a manner understandable to both beginners as well as advanced students.
Ikuko Nakagoshi / Counselor
アメリカ東海岸、バージニア州に4年半滞在。 滞在中はAdult Learning Centerで英語を学ぶ。 2人の子どもたちが通ったPublic Schoolのボランティア活動、長男が所属していたボーイスカウトを通じ、地域の人々を交流を持つ。 アメリカで女性に人気のスクラップブッキングに興味を持ち、コミュニケーションの輪を広げた。アメリカの雰囲気が漂う当校に魅かれ、自分自身も学びながらカウンセラーを務める。
Ikuko lived for 4 years in Virginia State on the east coast of the U.S. While studying English at the Adult Learning Center there, she helped out at the elementary school her 2 children attended and with her son’s Boy Scout troop. In Virginia, Ikuko also pursued her hobbies of porcelain-painting and scrapbooking. In this way, she developed close ties with the community and made many American friends while advancing her English. After returning to Japan, she was impressed by the international, English-speaking atmosphere of English Now! and has become one of our counselors in addition to attending classes here herself.
Emi Watanabe/ Counselor
茨城大学工学部機械工学科卒業。「理系の人間は英語が苦手だ」という通説を吹き飛ばすべく、学生時代にカナダ、バンクーバーに短期留学。大学卒業後は再度バンクーバーで長期語学留学を行う。カナダでは積極的に異国の友人を作り、今でも交流を保っている。帰国後直ぐに当スタッフの一員へ。小学校英語指導資格を所持。
Emi graduated from Ibaraki University. While a student, she attended language training courses in Canada and after graduating moved back to Canada to further improve her English. She made many foreign friends in Canada with whom she keeps close contact. Emi joined our ENGLISH NOW! staff right after returning from Canada. Emi is certified as an elementary school English instructor.
Eri Fujisawa/ Counselor
日本専門学校卒業後、アパレル業界に就職。当時、出逢った本に心動かされ、長年の夢だった海外留学を決意する。カナダ・バンクーバーに1年5ヶ月間滞在。カナダ滞在中は、生活費が尽きる程のサバイバル生活を体験する。現地でどうにか職に就き、生の英語に触れながら生活を送り、ワーキングホリデー期間を終了する。カナダにいる頃に、ENGLISH NOW!のHPを訪ね、帰国後すぐに当スタッフの一員となる。
After technical college, Eri found employment in the fashion industry. By chance, she came across a book which inspired her to pursue her lifelong dream of studying abroad. Eri moved to Vancouver Canada where she lived for a year and a half. She often had very little money to get by on and even day-to-day survival became a challenge. She stuck with it, though, and immersed in English successfully completed her working holiday. Upon her return to Japan, Eri immediately came to work for English Now!
